What Will You need if you Travel with Asthma

Asthma is a medical condition nobody actually wants, but many people suffer from it. If you are among them, then you should not think that it will stop you from travelling. On the contrary, if you make sure to pack up the right things and to plan some other things ahead of time, you will be able to enjoy your holiday without suffering any asthma attack.

Pack Your Medication

Before you leave, double-check on whether or not you have packed all your medication and asthma management products. Make sure that you don’t have them deeply buried at the bottom of your luggage and that they will be handy if you actually need them. Put them in your purse or in the hand luggage you are allowed to take with you when flying and you should be fine.

Also, don’t forget to take a letter from your doctor where he/she explains your condition and what kind of medication you need. In case you have any issue at the airport, you can simply show them the letter and they should be able to understand your condition. Even more than that, take with you all the documents that can help you purchase other medications in case you need it: health insurance, your asthma plan: dosage, what kind of drugs you need and so on, generic names of the medication you normally take and so on.

In the Plane

The air in the plane can be quite dry in most of the cases, which can be more than just uncomfortable for someone who suffers from asthma. However, if you keep yourself hydrated, you should be fine.

Also, remember to ask the flight company about their smoking policy. Most of the normal flights ban smoking in the airplanes, but smoking is not banned in charter flights. Asking beforehand should keep you safe.

At the Hotel

It is important how you choose your hotel. It does not necessarily have to be a very expensive hotel. It just has to be one where there is as little amount of allergens as possible. Ask for non-allergenic pillows and bed linen. This way, you make sure that you don’t have an asthma attack because of them. Also, try to choose a hotel that is not situated in any dusty area since that could harm you given your condition.
