I have always been interested in getting off the beaten track and going to places where few people seem to go to. However, there are also some destinations which are popular with tourists and which I am interested in seeing as well.
One of the best examples of this kind of place comes in the shape of the Maldives Islands. It is one of those places which sound so incredibly far away and exotic that most of us probably can’t even imagine what we would do if we ever had the good fortune to end up there. Well, as I plan to be in that part of the world soon I did some research and discovered that it might just be perfect destination for me.
I love to find out fascinating facts about the places I plan to go to, and the Maldives Islands is full of them. For a start, it is the smallest and least populated country in Asia and is made up of over widely dispersed 1,000 islands. More interestingly, it is the country with the lowest high point in the world (if that makes sense). The highest natural point in the country is just 2.4 meters above sea level. This leads me on to the environmental concerns which you might already have heard about. Maldives is one of the planet’s most endangered countries, as any significant rise in the level of the oceans would cause a disaster here. The idea of a country full of low lying, sparsely islands is so exciting and romantic sounding that even with these limited details I can start to picture myself there.
The Things to Do
By this point in my investigations I was beginning to think that water-based activities were going to be the main things to do there. It certainly is a place where you can enjoy the ocean but there is more to it than that. If we start with the water then we can see that scuba diving in the famously crystal clear waters is a fine option. I can easily imagine myself surrounded by lots of colorful fish as I see the world from a completely different point of view. When it comes to other water sports, surfing is incredibly popular here and sounds like something well worth trying. Apart from that, there are trips to see traditional villages and lots of pampering treatments available. Of course, all of this assumes that I wouldn’t be perfectly happy just sitting under the sun on some of the world’s finest beaches, which is a pretty big assumption.
It is clear that the Maldives Islands offer a travel experience like nowhere else on the planet, and that has got to be a good thing. It sounds like the ideal place to go to when I get fed up seeing big, crowded cities and urban life. It could turn out to be that dream destination I have always dreamed of finding but haven’t come across yet.
