Australia has an abundance of beautiful countryside and some of the best 4wd tracks in the world. There are many locations that any 4×4 enthusiast will have on their bucket list but there are a few main ones that come to mind when writing a list of must do adventures.

The Birdsville Track

Well known to many and featuring a long drive through the desert – this is something that most enthusiasts will tackle at some stage. Along the way, you will witness beautiful homesteads, ruins, wetlands and sandhills – it just about covers all sightseeing musts! Don’t forget to stop at the Birdsville Pup for a well-earned beer and make sure you carry a few spare tyres as the track is pretty rugged and can take its toll.

Gibb River Road

The Gibb River Road in Western Australia will ensure that any 4×4 enthusiast is fully catered for when it comes to sights. From amazing gorges to waterfalls, wetlands and art galleries dating many, many years – this trek goes right through the classic Kimberley Region. Not only will you take in all these beautiful sights – the many waterways and large Penecost River in the area – you will also get a chance to see some saltwater crocodiles.

Victoria: The Alps

This is a tour for an experience driver as you will be taken along very high landscapes in the Victorian Alps. The high altitude landscapes viewed as you explore the Alpine National Park are a sight to behold and your eye will be drawn to the picturesque aspects across waterways and grassy plains. There are many walking trails in this area where gold was once sought and a few good days to explore the area are required. Access to food and accommodation in this area are plentiful a vehicle snorkel is recommended for the various deep water river crossings that you will come across.

The Top End

Nothing says adventure like the thought of touring through Australia’s Top End. Companies like are popular for their guided 4×4 tours through this historic area of Darwin, Katherine and the Litchfield National Park. Here you will find amazing Aboriginal art, see the rugged area of the outback outside of Darwin, sight crocodiles in the Mary River and view beautiful water falls.

The choice in Australia is really endless for great 4x 4 experiences. Depending on where you are located, choose one that is close to you and do a two or three day tour – or if you are more adventurous and have some time up your sleeve – venture afar, give yourselves a week or two and take in some of the great wonders this Country has to offer.
