If you’re wanting a cheap break this summer, why not look in an easterly direction and visit the only country with a city that straddles two continents?
I’m of course talking about Turkey – land of mystery, fun and beautiful sights to explore. The perk is that this summer, you’ll not only get a cheap holiday at booking, but the lira rate is great right now, meaning more for your money.
Saving money is basically the way to go with a Turkey holiday, because this is one destination that won’t break the bank. Of course, you can go all up market and book an expensive all inclusive, but why bother when you can book one for a lower cost, which has comparable facilities? The thing to remember is that a four or five star in Turkey won’t be the same standard as a four or five star in the UK, however as long as it’s clean, comfortable and safe, I’d be opening up my search.
Turkey is also a great destination for families, as the Turks are notoriously family-oriented and will make a fuss of your little ones. Some worry this can be over the top, however I’ve never known it to be too much in the slightest. On the flip side, if it’s a group wanting fun and sun, then Turkey also caters for that, as well as the romantic meals for two brigade. It’s a real all-rounder destination.
There are many resorts within the country, and most are based on the south west coast. Of course, the city of Istanbul is a major pull, and it’s certainly a place I’d recommend everyone visits at least once. Despite that, I would go in winter, because the beach resorts on the south offer huge bargains and wonderful experiences when the temperatures are soaring. Marmaris is probably the most popular resort, with neighbouring, family friendly Icmeler offering a quieter alternative. Further along the coast in an easterly direction, you’ll find Alanya, Antalya and Side, where as west from Marmaris there is Bodrum, Gumbet, Altinkum and Kusadasi. Bargains are to be had in all these resorts, so get searching!
The major thing to remember with a Turkish summer holiday is to try and drench yourself in as much of the culture as you can, because it really is rich and rewarding, and too many don’t bother to get out and see more of this beautiful country. An easily obtained Turkey Visa is the only thing standing in the way between you and a real life heaven right now!
